Our community has gotten many compliments lately for being accepting, friendly, and helping others feel comfortable dancing.

Hello Everyone,

Our community has gotten many compliments lately for being accepting, friendly, and helping others feel comfortable dancing.  Thank you all for your kindness to others, your generosity, and your participation as a valued dancer at The Crystal Ballroom.  Many of you are enjoying private lessons and memberships at the studio.  You are inviting your friends, attending parties/group classes, making friends, and helping others find the joy of dancing.  This week I'd like to share the goals of our current group classes, and ask for your suggestions so we can continue to bring you all group classes you enjoy and would like to continue to attend in the future!

Here's the breakdown...

Saturday Night Group Classes
Every Saturday we offer 2 levels of group classes before the party.  You already knew that, but maybe you don't know why we offer these classes that change dances every single week.  The Saturday group classes are a great way to meet other people at your level and get warmed up for dancing the night away.

The Introductory Class is perfect for those who have never danced before, or have not danced the particular dance being taught that week.  It starts at square one, with the goal of each person knowing at least enough to do the basics with a partner at the party that night.

The Continuing Class assumes you know the first 2-4 steps of the particular dance being taught and can stick to the rhythm.  This class may be slightly challenging for those who haven't taken private lessons, but is a great way to meet others as we rotate through partners and add a step or technique to your dances.

Thursday Night Group Classes
Thursday Night Group Classes are a way to get a little more focus on dances.  There are 2 Levels of Group Classes on Thursdays with a new LEVEL I Class starting each month.  In these classes we teach the Dance Vision Syllabus one level at a time.  This class is also a class where you need to attend Level I (or test out of it) in order to attend Level II.  This guarantees that we don't need to go back and teach the steps from Level I again during these progressive classes.

In May if you attended Level I Rumba, we welcome you to attend Level II!!  Or you can start Learning Foxtrot from the very beginning!

Tuesday Night Group Classes
On Tuesday Nights we merge with Buckeye Bop Club for the group class.  This means that as long as you not attending the Buckeye Bop Club Party, you can use a Membership credit for the group class.  Please check in with Buckeye Bop Club and let them know you are only attending the group class and would like to use your Crystal Ballroom Credit.  Each month this group of 40-60 people offers a progressive group class on one of their core dances.

Monday and Wednesday Group Classes
On Monday and Wednesday nights we offer 4-8 week series created by our staff with your feedback in mind.  We are constantly looking for what group classes you all want or need.  If we notice concepts or dances at the parties that could use some focus, or when our members approach any of us and mention which dance they'd like next, we work those classes into the schedule.

So, here's the ask, let us know what dance (or concept) you'd like to focus on for a period of time!  Ways to let us know are... respond to this email, message us on facebook, or talk to an instructor in the studio!  CLICK HERE to respond to this question in our facebook group (you need to be a member of the group to respond on here)

There are 2 ways you are invited to participate in The Buckeye Open Showcase...

#1. You are invited to dance any or all of the dances you know with a partner as a performance and with feedback.

Whether you are currently taking lessons, or just enjoy dancing this is a great opportunity to get some video of you doing your thing at an event for minimal cost... a great way to be involved!  Deadline is May 1st to join the event.

#2. You are invited to come and watch this wonderful day of dance performances!

The performances start at 1pm at Valley Dale Ballroom (1590 Sunbury Rd, Columbus, OH.  If you are wondering what to expect, think Dancing with the Stars but with local students and instructors.  The day will start with a variety of performances, and end with some social dancing, professional performances, hors d'oeuvres, and awards!

Buckeye Open Showcase Frequently Asked Questions
Where? Valley Dale Ballroom in Columbus

When? May 19th: 1pm-approx 6pm

Can I come watch? Yes, spectator tickets are already on sale.  It's only $20 a person in advance to enjoy the entire day (tickets are $25 at the door). You can click this link to purchase tickets now!

Will there be social dancing? Approximately the last hour of the Showcase will include hors d'oeuvres, top performances, social dancing, and awards!

What is a heat? A heat is an opportunity for those who are working on a particular dance (many times competitors or private lesson students) to get on the floor, dance to the provided music for their particular dance(s), get professional video and feedback from our professional adjudicators.  Heats are limited to 1 closed and 1 open per dance per partnership.

What do I wear if I participate in the heats? Practicewear or competition wear is perfect.  For the ladies, a short skirt for rhythm, long skirt for smooth.  For the gentlemen, dance pants with a button down shirt and tie.

Why would I want to come watch the Showcase? If you enjoy Dancing with the Stars, this is a similar type of event.  There will be many fun, choreographed numbers to specific music with costumes as well as some heats where you will see people of all levels put their best foot forward (pun intended)!

In May we have 1 more awesome collaboration: The Crystal Ballroom & The Meetup Group: Board Games at Bars are working together to bring you... Complimentary Intro to Dance Class & Board Game Night on Friday May 10th at 7pm!

This 3 Hour Event gives you time to explore the studio, learn some basic dance steps, then spend hours playing board games while making new friends!

Remember to share these events with your friends and share the joy of dance, and our friendly Crystal Ballroom Atmosphere with your friends, family and acquaintances!

Btw, the walls of the studio where we show the accomplishments of our instructors and students have been updated!  Congrats to Josh and Sophia on getting their first official teaching certification through Dance Vision!  Also check out how many of our students have received Student Achievement Awards through the years!

This coming weekend we have a few instructors and students going to Orlando for a competition and vacation... wish Teresa Trees, Michael Creamer, Jess Tran, and Davide Spiert luck as they represent The Crystal Ballroom April 28th!

This Saturday join us for our wonderful weekly ballroom dance party, preceded by Tango Group Classes in 2 Levels.

Let's all connect through dance at The Crystal Ballroom Dance Center!
