We don’t just teach dance at The Crystal Ballroom, we also offer many community building events like dance competitions, certifications, and even have a 5K team. Competitions offer several opportunities for dancers of all levels. Whether your interest is purely social, or you want to learn and compete at a high level, we offer opportunities that fulfill both purposes.
The Crystal Ballroom Dance Center offers Competition opportunities to our students if they are interested in dressing up, and dancing to impress in a ballroom full of friends!
You do not need to be an accomplished dancer to begin competing as a ballroom dancer, and in most cases, many go to their first competition within a few months of beginning to dance!
You only compete against those at your level and in your age category and if you are a newcomer to ballroom competition you can compete in the “newcomer” category! You might break a sweat on the floor, but it’s no sweat to join in the fun!
This is a partnership between a professional dancer (the teacher) and an amateur dancer (the student). Most ballroom competitions are primarily ProAm. This gives you an opportunity to enjoy progressing in your dancing with your instructor and get out and travel while doing something you love (competing ballroom). Many compete ProAm to have a sensational time (and get some great photos), dress to the nines, and generally improve their overall dancing skills. ProAm is a great way to enjoy the fun of ballroom dancing while enjoying the glamour of it too!
This is a partnership between two amateur dancers (students). At the Crystal Ballroom we offer an Amateur Competition team so even if you don’t have a partner, you can join the team, take group classes together, and compete with a variety of partners. This is a great way to be social and get started in competition. If you prefer to stay with the same partner, you can take private lessons to compete together.
Formations is a competition style where multiple couples take their hand at a choreographed dance number, to a particular song. We both offer competitive formation teams and social formation teams with the opportunity to take them to competition or perform them at showcases.
Spectator – We love our spectators! It’s nearly as fun to come to a competition and watch the other students who are competing as it is stepping out on the ballroom floor yourself! Our instructors also compete at many of the competitions! For some of the competitions we even organize a evening out where we go to dinner, shop at the vendors, then watch the professional competition in the evening. So please, join us we always welcome you to come along!
Showcase formations are a fun and enriching opportunity to learn dance from the inside out. Hone your dancing skills! Learn choreography, styling and technique in preparation for your showcase and show off your newly acquired skills.
